Safety rules for alpine skiers
We recommend all alpine skiers and snowboarders to learn and respect the 10 international rules for skiing and snowboarding.
10 rules for alpine skiers and snowboarders
1. RESPONSIBLE FOR AVOIDING INJURY You must conduct yourself in such a way as to avoid injury to yourself and others.
2. ADJUST YOUR SPEED ACCORDING TO THE CONDITIONS All skiing/boarding must be controlled and speed should be adjusted to suit ability, terrain, snow conditions and traffic.
3. RIGHT OF WAY If you are coming from behind (from above) it is your responsibility to avoid collision.
4. OVERTAKING / DOWNHILL SKIING All downhill skiing is prohibited unless during organised training sessions. Adequate room to allow for controlled and uncontrolled movements must be given when overtaking other skiers / snowboarders.
5. STARTING, ENTERING OR SWINGING UPWARDS INTO A TRAIL Care must be taken when entering or swinging upwards into a trail to ensure that this is done without endangering yourself or others. The same applies when restarting after a stop.
6. STOPPING ON A TRAIL Stopping or resting in narrow sections or areas with poor visibility is not permitted.
7. WALKING ON THE TRAILS The outer edges of the slopes must be used when walking.
8. SKI BRAKES / LEASHES Ski brakes and snowboard leashes are obligatory. Ensure your bindings are correctly adjusted.
9. RESPECT ALL SIGNS Observe all signs, markings and instructions.
10. ASSIST AT ACCIDENTS All persons are obligated to help injured parties. Witnesses and those involved are required to provide their personal details.
Alpine skiing is associated with a certain danger. Intoxicating substances and skiing do not mix. Breach of the traffic rules may result in expulsion from the centre.
