Kvitfjell ranked as the best alpine skiresort in Norway
Kvitfjell is ranked the best alpine ski-resort for alpine skiers in Norway. Read the reasons why below
"Kvitfjell (VG) With Scandinavia's most challenging downhill, the country's best-groomed slopes and a family-friendly area on the Westside, VG has rated Kvitfjell as Norway's best destination for alpine skiers.
- This is thanks to the team of groomers who operate the snow-grooming machines nightly throughout winter. As organizers of both Olympic and World Cup events Kvitfjell know that only the best is good enough. They are groomed to perfection every day throughout the season, says Olympic silver-medallist and former winner of the Giant-Slalom World Cup Ole Kristian Furuseth, also an investor at Kvitfjell.
- It's always nice to receive praise, says Henning Teigum, one of the grooming crew. - During the course of a winter season our snow-groomers cover a total of 20 000 kilometres, starting at 4 am every day. - I can't praise you enough. We have a reputation for quality here, and quality is what you deliver, says Ole Kristian as he stops for a chat with Teigum and his colleague Thomas Løkken.
Plenty of Room
While the standard of trails at many other alpine centres tend to deteriorate towards the end of the day, several of the runs at Kvitfjell remain perfect all day long. The two main reasons for this are that the trails are perfectly groomed and there are many hills and relatively few people at Kvitfjell.
- I have worked as a skiing instructor at Verbier in Switzerland for many years, says Gregg Turner from England, and have visited many centres in the Alps. This is my first visit to Kvitfjell, and I have to say that it seems quite unique. I don't think I've ever seen such well-groomed slopes with so few people anywhere in Europe. You can really let yourself go here. Despite the fact that Kvitfjell keeps expanding, there is never any problem finding room."
